Tragedy as man dies after gym workout

An Australian Mixed Marital Arts (MMA) fighter, Jake Sendler, has died at age 21 from rhabdomyolysis, a rare condition caused by extreme exercise.

Sendler, an amateur fighter and trainer, collapsed after a bout in Melbourne on March 3 and was rushed to the hospital.

Doctors diagnosed him with rhabdomyolysis, a serious illness where damaged muscle releases toxins into the bloodstream, causing potential kidney failure, heart issues, or death.

Despite undergoing multiple surgeries and receiving blood transfusions, his condition worsened, and he was placed in an induced coma before passing away on March, 13, 2025.

His devastated mother, Sharone Sendler, described the heart breaking moment when she told him he could rest, and he took his last breath.

Sendler was dedicated to fitness, strictly following a healthy diet and rigorous training schedule to maintain his peak physical condition and strength.

However, he ignored early symptoms such as muscle pain and dark urine, believing they were normal effects of intense workouts and dehydration.

Reports have emerged that extreme weight cutting before his fight may have contributed to his severe illness and eventual tragic death.

An insider revealed Sendler attempted to lose approximately six kilograms within two days before his scheduled MMA fight on March 3.

His usual weight was around 75 kilograms, meaning he tried to shed nearly seven percent of his total body weight rapidly.

Medical experts warn that rapid weight loss before fights increases the risk of serious health conditions, including rhabdomyolysis and cardiovascular complications.

Sendler was cleared to fight by medical officials despite experiencing symptoms and concerns about his drastic weight-cutting methods before the competition.

The Australian MMA community has expressed shock and sadness over his death, with tributes pouring in from fellow fighters and trainers.

His grieving family has launched a campaign to raise awareness about rhabdomyolysis, calling it a silent killer affecting unsuspecting athletes.

The tragic incident has reignited discussions about dangerous weight-cutting practices and the need for stricter health regulations in combat sports.
