US President Donald Trump has unveiled a limited-edition US passport that includes his image as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Trump shared images of the redesigned passport on social media on Friday, showing one of the pages featuring a photograph of him seated behind the Resolute Desk, with the Declaration of Independence displayed in the background. His signature also appears beneath the image.
According to the US State Department, the commemorative passports will be available from 6 July and will be issued only while supplies last.
Announcing the design on Truth Social, Trump described it as “the U.S.A.’s new passport.” While he added the phrase “Welcome, but be good!” in his post, those words do not appear on the passport pages released by the administration.
The White House later reposted the images on X, describing the document as a “patriot passport.”
Access to the special-edition passport will be limited. The State Department said only US citizens can apply, and applications cannot be submitted online or by mail. Interested applicants must schedule an appointment at the Washington Passport Agency or attend designated passport acceptance events.
So far, only two such events have been announced, both in Washington, DC, though officials say more locations may be added.
Traditional US passports typically feature scenes from American history, including the Moon landing and landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty. The new design marks a significant departure from that format.
It is believed to be the first time a sitting US president has been featured inside a US passport while still in office.
The passport is the latest in a series of initiatives linked to the country’s semiquincentennial celebrations. Earlier this year, the administration revealed plans for a commemorative gold coin bearing Trump’s likeness. The president has also pushed for several projects aimed at leaving a lasting mark on Washington, including proposals to rename or redesign prominent national institutions and monuments.
The special passport was first announced in April with a different design that featured only Trump’s portrait and a gold-coloured signature. The final version now includes the “United States of America 250” branding as part of the anniversary celebrations.
