Ward chairman reportedly threatens Imo State Commissioner

Imo State Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs, Dr Ugorji Ugorji, has exposed an alleged plan by a ward chairman in the state to instigate violent attacks on his person and family members using unknown gunmen operating in the southeast.

Dr Ugorji disclosed this during a general membership meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the Lorji Ward in Aboh Mbaise LGA of Imo State on Sunday, September 4, 2022.

The Commissioner stated that he received a report that the Chairman of his Ward, Mr. Udochukwu Iwuoha, was planning to have him targeted for a violent attack.

Iwuoha, alias ‘Ikporosi,’ also allegedly boasted of his exploits in illegal oil bunkering in the Egbema/Oguta area of Imo State and his ties with unknown gunmen at a local pub.

He reportedly said he believed it was time to attack the compound of HRH Eze S N. Ugorji, the father of Commissioner Ugorji.

Notorious as a rabble-rouser and drifter in the community, Iwuoha also undertakes the transporting of corpses to local morgues.

He was recently reportedly installed as APC ward chairman, against the popular wishes of APC members, by the former IMC Chairman of Aboh Mbaise LGA, Barrister Emmanuel Njoku. Iwuoha acts as a personal driver to Njoku.

Dr. Ugorji informed the over 400 people in attendance at the meeting, that the matter has been taken up by relevant officials for more investigations.

He warned that anyone caught engaging in criminal and gang activities by law enforcement agents will be appropriately handled under the provisions of the law.

There have been multiple media reports of violent attacks linked to unknown gunmen on traditional rulers and institutions as well as security installations and personnel, in the southeast – consequently, security has been beefed up in the region by joint taskforces of security agencies to tame violent groups. Read more.
