Aregbesola aims to transform the ADC into a disciplined, structured, and ideologically-driven force anchored on democratic principles, transparency, and national interest.

As Interim National Secretary, Aregbesola vowed to Model International Best Practices.

Adapt global standards to suit Nigeria’s local realities, emphasizing discipline, clarity of purpose, and service to the people.

Focus on key sectors like education, security, and job creation to actively serve the people.

Instill a sense of purpose and direction in the ADC, moving away from the typical Nigerian political party structure.

However, Aregbesola’s appointment has been met with controversy, with some ADC stakeholders rejecting his role due to alleged illegitimacy and lack of consultation with the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) or state chairmen.

Former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has explained why he accepted the role of Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as reported by Punch, on Wednesday, 2nd July, 2025.

He said Nigeria’s political parties lack clear ideas and often focus only on power and personal gain.

In his acceptance speech shared on social media, Aregbesola noted that many political parties in Nigeria are “empty shells.”

He said these parties split and join based on personalities and ambitions rather than policies or principles this, he added, hurts the people and the nation.

He contrasted this with the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa, which he described as a party with a clear vision and strong values like justice, equality, and freedom.

Aregbesola said the ANC has character and stands for real people’s aspirations.

Aregbesola’s political career began as a commissioner under Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu.

He later became Governor of Osun State and helped form the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He served as Nigeria’s Minister of Interior but had a falling out with Tinubu before the 2023 elections.

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Aregbesola joined forces with notable politicians including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

They formed a new coalition, which later chose the ADC as its political platform.

As ADC Interim National Secretary, Aregbesola promised to build a party with a clear ideology and commitment to the people.

He said the party will promote democracy, transparency, social justice, and national development.

He also stressed the need to give real voices to young people, women, and marginalized groups.

Aregbesola said the ADC will work every day, not just during elections, to improve Nigeria.

He acknowledged the task is difficult but expressed confidence it can be achieved through discipline and service
