Veteran Nigerian Actress, Ethel Ekpe, Dies Of Cancer

Actress Ethel Ekpe

Ethel Ekpe, a seasoned actress who graced Nigeria’s entertainment screens, passed away on Wednesday in Lagos State from cancer.

In the now-defunct sitcom “Basi and Company” on Nigerian Television Authority, starring Ken Saro Wiwa, the late actress portrayed the character “Segi.”

Ekpe also made appearances in the songs “Forever” by Amaka Igwe and “Sons of the Caliphate.”

Dr. Shaibu Husseini, the Director-General of the National Film and Video Censors Board, revealed the news of her passing in a late Facebook post on Wednesday.

Husseini stated, “It has come to my attention that Ethel Ekpe, (Ethel Aderemi nee Ekpe), the stunning actress who mesmerized audiences with her unique portrayal of Segi in the long-gone sitcom “Basi and Company” on Nigerian Television Authority, has departed from this life.

According to reports, the actress, pastor, and star of Amaka Igwe’s “Forever” and most recently “Sons of the Caliphate” passed away in Lagos today from cancer.

“We named my second daughter Ethel after her, so we will especially miss her,” he continued, expressing how much his family will miss her. Good night, lovely lady!
