Lagos came alive with color, rhythm, and history as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu joined thousands of attendees at the 2026 Fanti Carnival, held on April 6 at Tafawa Balewa Square. The event once again highlighted the city’s deep cultural roots and its commitment to preserving heritage through celebration.

The Fanti Carnival, known for its rich historical significance, traces its origins to Afro-Brazilian returnees who settled in Lagos centuries ago, bringing with them a blend of Brazilian and Yoruba traditions.
