Labour Party to Okonkwo: Pack your bags and return to Nollywood
DDM News

The Labour Party (LP) has distanced itself from its former Presidential Campaign Council spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo.
According to the information made available to Diaspora digital media (DDM), the party’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk, stated that Okonkwo is no longer a registered member of the party.
Okonkwo, in a press statement on Tuesday, announced his resignation, citing the party’s internal crisis as his reason.
He alleged that LP is not prepared for the 2027 elections due to unresolved leadership disputes within the party.
“My entrance into politics is for good governance, which I can no longer pursue in the Labour Party,” Okonkwo said.
He revealed that his resignation would take effect on February 25, 2025, exactly two years after the last election.
Okonkwo hinted at joining another political platform to continue his mission of promoting good governance in Nigeria.
“This resignation takes effect from February 25, after which I will collaborate with others for a better Nigeria,” he added.
Criticism of Labour Party leadership
Okonkwo accused LP National Chairman Julius Abure of prioritizing personal interests over the party’s stability and future.
He claimed that prolonged legal battles had weakened the party’s structure, preventing effective preparations for the next elections.
He argued that LP currently lacks effective leadership at the national level due to its failure to hold a valid convention.
“The former national chairman and his committee failed to conduct a legally recognized convention,” Okonkwo stated.
According to him, INEC has not acknowledged any national convention, which leaves the party in a leadership crisis.
He further alleged that some party members were obstructing the efforts of the Nenadi Usman-led Caretaker Committee.
“These political jobbers are engaging in unnecessary litigation to maintain their grip on the party,” Okonkwo added.
LP national secretary reacts
Labour Party National Secretary Umar Farouk dismissed Okonkwo’s claims, accusing him of seeking attention and relevance.
“How many times will he resign? He already resigned months ago but keeps returning for publicity,” Farouk said.
He advised Okonkwo to return to Nollywood instead of creating unnecessary distractions within the party.
“Let him carry his bag and go back to Nollywood where he belongs,” Farouk stated.
He insisted that Okonkwo does not deserve to be in any political party due to his inconsistent behavior.
With his resignation set for February 25, 2025, many are watching to see his next political move.
