Why Nigerian Senate has summoned Brekete Radio host, Isah

The Nigeria Senate has invited Ahmed Isah, the popular host of Brekete Family, a human rights radio and television show, to appear before it following a recent broadcast involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Isah, widely known as the “Ordinary President,” disclosed the invitation during his live program on Monday, February 24, 2025.

He is expected to appear before the Senate by February 27.

The Controversial Broadcast
The summons stems from a recent episode of Brekete Family, where Isah facilitated a live conversation between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

While Akpoti-Uduaghan responded to the call and aired her grievances against the Senate leadership, Akpabio declined to answer multiple calls from the show.

During the broadcast, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused the Senate leadership of victimizing her, particularly over the unauthorized relocation of her seat in the Senate chamber.

She also criticized Akpabio for what she described as his high-handedness and disregard for opposition voices.

Senator Sani wades in

Meanwhile, former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has condemned the Nigerian Senate’s decision to summon Iash.

Sani described the summons as “unnecessary and demeaning.”

In a post on his official X handle, Shehu Sani criticized the Senate’s decision to summon Isah, stating, “Inviting Ahmed Isah, the CEO of Berekete Radio, to the Senate is unnecessary and demeaning.”

Sani, a vocal advocate for human rights and good governance, argued that the Senate’s actions could be perceived as an attempt to intimidate media personalities who provide platforms for public discourse.
