Again: Terrorists launch deadly attack on Borno military base, killing 3 officers and 17 soldiers
DDM News

Armed terrorists, suspected to be Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters, have launched a deadly attack on a military base in Malam-Fatori, the headquarters of Abadam Local Government Area, Borno State, killing a battalion commander, two senior officers, and 17 soldiers.
This tragic incident is yet another reminder of the region’s ongoing security challenges.
Reports from Diaspora digital media (DDM) reveal that this latest assault occurred just two days after terrorists killed 20 fishermen in the Gadan Gari fishing community in Bama Local Government Area.
While Bama is located in central Borno, Malam-Fatori lies in the northern part of the state, close to the Republic of Niger border.
This attack on Malam-Fatori mirrors a similar assault that occurred weeks ago when terrorists stormed a military base in the Sabon Gari area of Damboa Local Government Area, killing several officers and soldiers.
The repeated attacks on military installations demonstrate the growing boldness of the insurgents in the state.
According to reliable sources, the terrorists arrived at the Malam-Fatori military base in multiple gun trucks and unleashed havoc for several hours on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Survivors reportedly fled for safety, leaving the 149 Battalion dislodged.
The attackers set fire to several buildings and military operational vehicles during the onslaught.
One source reported, “Many soldiers sustained severe injuries, and an unknown number remain missing as of Saturday.
The battalion’s commanding officer, two senior officers, including the base medical director, were among those killed in the attack.”
This latest tragedy comes just days after a brutal attack on the Forward Operating Base in Damboa, where terrorists killed an unconfirmed number of soldiers.
Reports indicate that the terror group also targeted the 25 Taskforce Brigade over the weekend, inflicting heavy casualties.
“The terrorists invaded the FOB Sabon Gari camp at around 4 am, using various weapons.
So far, over seven bodies have been recovered,” another source added.
In the Gadan Gari attack, terrorists struck the fishing community on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at about 11:00 am.
Modu Ari, a member of the civilian joint task force, confirmed that at least 20 fishermen were killed when the terrorists opened fire indiscriminately.
A local resident, Mustapha Kachallah, recounted his ordeal, saying, “My child was among those killed.
We’ve buried more than 15 people already.”
These incidents follow a series of terrorist attacks that have plagued Borno State since November last year.
Prior to these two attacks, over 40 farmers were killed in Dumba, a farming and fishing community in Kukawa Local Government Area.
The renewed violence has disrupted efforts to resettle internally displaced persons (IDPs) and restore stability in the region.
Despite the increasing frequency of these terrorist attacks, neither the military nor state officials have issued statements about the recent incidents, further fueling concerns about the worsening security situation.
The growing number of attacks in Borno State highlights the urgent need for a robust response from the federal government and the Nigerian military.
Security experts have called for enhanced intelligence gathering, improved military presence, and strategic operations to neutralize the terrorists and protect vulnerable communities.
The resurgence of terrorism in Borno poses a significant challenge to the progress made in recent years to stabilize the region.
Without decisive action, the gains made in resettling displaced communities and restoring peace could be completely undone.
As residents of Malam-Fatori, Bama, and other affected communities mourn their losses, the repeated attacks by terrorists emphasize the need for immediate and comprehensive measures to restore security in Borno State.
The government must prioritize this crisis to prevent further devastation and loss of lives.
