Edo Governor’s aide resigns amidst political turmoil

Mrs. Sarah Ajose-Adeogun, Special Adviser on Strategy, Performance, and Project Monitoring to Governor Godwin Obaseki, has tendered her resignation.
The former Senior Manager at Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, widely known as Madam Sarah, announced her departure on Facebook, expressing gratitude for her service.
In her Facebook post, Ajose-Adeogun wrote, “Thank you Lord, l came, l saw, l conquered, served meritoriously and looking forward with optimism. Indeed God has been awesome in my life. Praise the Lord.”
Sources suggest that her decision to resign may be linked to the ongoing political crisis in the state, particularly the strained relationship between Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu.
This development comes on the heels of the resignation of the Chief Press Secretary to Obaseki, Andrew Okungbowa, in December 2023.
The political landscape in Edo State has been marked by power struggles, with Deputy Governor Shaibu openly campaigning, while Governor Obaseki reportedly supports Asue Ighodalo.
Earlier in January, Shaibu revealed feeling compelled to become Obaseki’s deputy, expressing regret that his principal did not endorse his candidacy for the upcoming 2024 governorship election.
Despite his contributions to the administration in terms of political structure and finances, Shaibu claimed Obaseki supported an outsider instead of him.
In response to the controversy surrounding the renovation of the Interdenominational Government House Chapel, where Shaibu held a Mass outside his new office, the Edo State government issued a statement.
The government accused Shaibu of stirring controversy over the chapel’s renovation and using religious sentiments for political purposes.
The statement emphasized that the chapel’s renovation was approved during an Executive Council Meeting where Shaibu was present.
As the political dynamics unfold in Edo State, the resignation of key figures and the ongoing rift between the governor and his deputy add complexity to the state’s political landscape.
The public remains attentive to the unfolding events and their potential impact on the governance of Edo State.
