“One chance” robberies: FCT police sets to seize unregistered vehicles, tinted glasses
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced its plan to seize vehicles without registration numbers and any vehicle with tinted glass to tackle the growing menace of “one-chance robberies” in the city.
The FCT Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Tuesday disclosed that there would be strict enforcement of laws on any covered number plates and tinted glasses.
As gathered by the Digital Media (DDM), the command, to combat the increasing incidence of “one-chance” crimes and car thefts, has increased its personnel and equipment to enhance patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance throughout the territory.
The statement read: “To combat the rise in “one chance” crimes and car theft, FCT police are increasing patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance throughout the Federal Capital Territory.
“The FCT Police Command hereby announces that it will be seizing vehicles that fail to comply with registration requirements, including those with incomplete or altered plates.”
“Furthermore, the use of covered number plates and tinted glasses will be closely monitored and enforced.”
“We know these operations might cause some problems, but they’re crucial to keeping everyone in the FCT safe and preventing crimes that target drivers and passengers.”
“Since we started these operations, we’ve been able to recover stolen cars and catch ‘one chance’ robbers. We appreciate the public’s cooperation and patience, and advise them to abide with all the revelations.”
“We care about your safety, and we need your help. If you notice anything unusual, please let us know so we can work together to keep our community secured.”
“One chance” robberies in Nigeria
“One chance” robberies are a type of crime prevalent in Nigeria, particularly in urban areas like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.

Be cautious of overly friendly or aggressive drivers or passengers.
Keep valuables secure and out of sight, avoid traveling alone, especially at night, and use reputable taxi services or ride-hailing apps.
Law Enforcement Efforts

Some states have established special task forces to tackle the issue.
The police have also encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities and provide information on suspected perpetrators.
