Victor Osimhen sets new Galatasaray record
Victor Osimhen has had an explosive start to life at Galatasaray. His performance level is underlined by matching a new 10-year record at the club.
Osimhen’s brilliant start at Galatasaray
The 25-year-old striker has seamlessly integrated into Okan Buruk’s side, and despite a brief injury spell which kept him out for a couple of games, no other player in the team has scored more goals than him in the Super Lig.
The Nigerian’s all-round play has also been impressive, and he has notched two assists this season already.
Only Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Sara has registered more goal contributions than the Nigerian.
He scored the winning goal last time out in the 2-1 victory over Besiktas, which helped strengthen Galatasaray’s hold on first position.
Other than the team achievement of the goal, Osimhen also set a record.
The striker’s 67th-minute header against the Black Eagles took his goal contributions for the league season to six (four goals, two assists) in only five games.
The former Lille hitman became the first Galatasaray player to reach that tally as quickly as five games in a season since Bafetimbi Gomis achieved the feat in the 2014-15 season.
Osimhen
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Osimhen began his career at Ultimate Strikers Academy before joining Wolfsburg and later Lille, where his impressive goal-scoring exploits earned him a transfer to Napoli in 2020.
Since joining Napoli, Osimhen has consistently demonstrated his finishing prowess, scoring over 60 goals in less than three seasons, and leading the Italian club to its first Serie A title in over three decades.
His pace, power, and precision have drawn comparisons to some of Africa’s greatest strikers, and his performances have made him a key figure for the Nigerian national team, earning him numerous individual accolades and cementing his status as one of the most exciting talents in the sport.
