PSC said this in press statement

The attention of the Police Service Commission has been drawn to a story in your   Elombah.com” online publication, titled “How PSC Boss Mike Okiro shields a Police felon from prosecution”.

The Commission has also noted in the publication, the attempt to link its Chairman, Sir, Dr. Mike Mbama Okiro, a retired Inspector General of Police with financial inducements to shield the said Police Officer, which it considers to be in bad taste and unfortunate.

The Commission wishes to state as follows:

1.     That it is in possession of a letter from the Police Force Headquarters recommending  “not directing” the suspension of one  ASP Bernard Agada, AP 100953 over issues ranging from certificate forgery and other related offences.

2.     That the relevant Department, Department of Police Discipline, has since processed the recommendation after Departmental investigation, based on the facts presented before the Commission.

3.     That the recommendation of the Department is awaiting consideration of the Standing Committee of the Commission on Police Discipline before it will be presented to the Plenary, the highest decision making body of the Commission, for final decision. The Plenary meeting holds statutorily four times in a year.

4.     A decision on the recommendation from the Police Force Headquarters on the suspension of ASP Bernard Agada will be taken at the next plenary meeting of the Commission holding in November, 2017.

It is important to state that the Commission does not waste time in dispensing with recommendations that come to it for consideration and decision but in doing this, ensures that there is no miscarriage of justice since it is the final arbiter on issues pertaining to Police recruitment, promotion and discipline.

It is for this, that it carries out this important assignment with due diligence.

The Commission’s decision on the recommendation from the Force Headquarters on ASP Bernard Agada will be made public immediately after its next plenary meeting.
