Wike’s shocking betrayal: A political war against PDP leadership
DDM News

Former Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olabode George, has criticized Nyesom Wike for revoking the party’s land title.
The People’s Democratic Party, commonly abbreviated as PDP, is a prominent political organization recognized for its significant role in the political landscape of Nigeria.
Established in the late 1990s, the party has been influential in shaping the country’s policy directions and governance.
Known for championing democratic ideals, the party seeks to promote social justice, economic development, and national unity across Nigeria’s diverse population.
Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), revoked the Certificate of Occupancy for the PDP’s national secretariat.
Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the government claimed the party failed to pay the required ground rent for the property in Abuja’s Central Area Business District.
PDP’s unfinished national secretariat in the same district was also affected by the revocation.
Wike justified the decision by stating that the party owed ₦7.6 million in unpaid ground rent.
He accused PDP of neglecting its financial obligations despite earning billions from the sale of nomination forms.
George reacted strongly, calling the revocation a direct act of war against the party.
He stated that Wike had crossed a serious political boundary with his actions.
The elder statesman expressed disappointment, emphasizing that Wike had benefited immensely from the party.
George recalled his initial involvement with the G5 governors during the PDP crisis.
He later withdrew from the group when he noticed deviations from party principles.
George argued that Wike’s decision to revoke the land title showed ingratitude to the party.
He compared it to a son seizing his father’s house after rising to power through the family’s support.
He insisted that a more honorable action would have been for Wike to settle the debt himself.
Wike’s political journey, he said, was made possible by the PDP, which supported his rise in politics.
George pointed out that Wike was once a local government chairman under PDP’s platform.
He also served as chief of staff to the governor and later became a federal minister through the party.
Wike’s eight-year tenure as Rivers State governor was also made possible by PDP.
George questioned why Wike would take such an action against the party that nurtured him.
He declared that Wike’s move was an outright disassociation from PDP.
George described the decision as a declaration of political war against the party.
He emphasized that party leaders must respond firmly to this challenge.
According to him, inaction would portray PDP leaders as weak and irresponsible.
George referenced the disciplinary committee set up by PDP to address internal disputes.
He declined an invitation to serve on the committee due to perceived bias in its composition.
He claimed that the committee was dominated by individuals aligned with Atiku Abubakar.
This, he argued, made the committee’s process questionable and unbalanced.
Despite his disagreement with the committee’s structure, George urged party members to regroup.
He called for unity ahead of the party’s convention scheduled for October or November.
George stressed that PDP must take decisive action to prevent further internal disintegration.
He maintained that Wike’s conduct required urgent intervention to protect the party’s integrity.
He also warned that failure to act would weaken the party’s structure and credibility.
George reaffirmed his commitment to PDP’s principles despite the ongoing crisis.
He urged party elders and stakeholders to ensure PDP remains strong and united.
The revocation of the land title remains a contentious issue within the party.
Wike’s stance has fueled tensions, leading to internal conflicts among PDP members.
The party’s leadership is expected to convene and address the situation.
George’s remarks reflect the broader frustration among senior PDP members.
The coming months will determine the party’s response to this political conflict.
