82 Nigerians awarded UK Chevening, Commonwealth scholarship

This year, the British Government has granted scholarship awards to 82 Nigerians for master’s and PhD programs in the UK.

Of these, 32 have received Chevening scholarships, and 50 have been awarded Commonwealth scholarships.

A pre-departure ceremony was held in Abuja on August 29, 2024, for scholars based in the city and surrounding areas.

A similar event is scheduled for next week in Lagos, hosted by Deputy Head of Mission Abby Bernard, for scholars from Lagos and nearby cities.

At the Abuja ceremony, British Deputy High Commissioner Mrs. Gill Lever congratulated the recipients for their success in the competitive selection process.

“The UK continues to support the educational development of Nigerians and remains transparent and inclusive in the selection process across the board,” she said.

Mrs. Lever urged scholars to excel, represent Nigeria in the UK, and use their scholarships for growth and networking.

“Bring those experiences back to Nigeria and use them to create positive change both in your country and the world,” she added.

Director of Operations at the British Council Nigeria, Idowu Akintade, also addressed the attendees.

“We hope the skills and knowledge you gain from this scholarship opportunity will prepare you to contribute positively to Nigeria’s development priorities,” he said.

“Build a strong network and continue to be excellent ambassadors for the prestigious Commonwealth and Chevening Scholarships.”

Chevening and Commonwealth scholarship
