Daniel Bwala defends his decision to serve in Tinubu’s government amidst backlash

Daniel Bwala, a presidential aide, engaged in a heated exchange with Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) noted the exchange occurred during a live interview on Tuesday, where Bwala was questioned about his decision to align with President Tinubu’s administration.

Oseni asked why Bwala chose to serve in a government he had once criticized.

Bwala responded sharply, “Don’t ask me questions like I’m a secondary student,” dismissing Oseni’s inquiry as too simplistic.

The interview became more tense when Oseni pressed further, asking if Bwala’s decision was politically convenient.

Bwala defended his stance, saying his decision to join the administration was based on national interest, not personal gain.

He explained that he was motivated by a conviction to contribute meaningfully to the country’s governance.

Bwala added, “People evolve, perspectives change, and governance is about making an impact.”

His comments sparked debate across social media, with reactions divided between supporters and critics.

Some social media users supported Oseni’s questioning, while others criticized Bwala’s response as dismissive.

A user on X (formerly Twitter), Mezie Abia, criticized Bwala for changing his position on Tinubu.

Abia accused Bwala of flip-flopping, pointing to his previous sharp criticisms of Tinubu.

Abia also compared Bwala to other political figures like Reno Omokri and Femi Kayode, who had done the same.

“Daniel Bwala called Tinubu unprintable names on this platform, today, he’s shamelessly defending those names,” Abia stated.

Abia’s post gained traction, with many agreeing that Bwala’s actions mirrored the inconsistencies seen in Nigerian politics.

However, some users supported Bwala’s right to evolve politically and serve the nation in any capacity.

Akereyejo (@Palermo_seun) criticized Oseni’s approach, saying the journalist lacked professionalism in his questioning style.

Akereyejo argued that Oseni focused more on sensationalism than on obtaining useful information for the public.

“As a journalist, you should be objective in your questions because the goal is to inform the public,” he wrote.

Sola Ogunlola (@sola_ogunlola) defended the role of journalists in holding public officials accountable.

However, Ogunlola stressed that journalists should avoid personal attacks while questioning politicians.

“Every journalist can’t be slaves to the politicians,” Ogunlola tweeted, emphasizing the need for balance in interviews.

The exchange between Bwala and Oseni sparked wider discussions about political integrity and shifting allegiances in Nigerian politics.

Bwala’s remarks continue to stir debate about whether his decision was based on conviction or political expediency.
