Super falcons reveal strong lineup for WAFCON final clash
DDM News

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have officially named their starting lineup for the much-anticipated final match against host nation Morocco in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to kick off tonight at 9 p.m. at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Head Coach Justin Pwanidi Madugu has selected a strong and experienced squad for what many are calling the most important game in recent Nigerian women’s football history.
In goal, the ever-reliable Chiamaka Nnadozie retains her place as Nigeria’s last line of defense.
The Paris FC shot-stopper has been instrumental throughout the tournament, making crucial saves, particularly in the semi-final victory over South Africa.
The defense will feature seasoned players including Osinachi Ohale and Michelle Alozie, both of whom bring international experience and composure.
They are joined by Oluwatosin Demehin, Ashleigh Plumptre, and Deborah Abiodun, forming a solid backline expected to contain Morocco’s speedy attackers.
In midfield, Halimatu Ayinde and Folashade Florence Ijamilusi are expected to provide both defensive cover and creative support.
Up front, the trio of Rasheedat Ajibade, Chinwendu Ihezuo, and Esther Okoronkwo will lead the attack, looking to break down the Moroccan defense with pace, precision, and power.
Nigeria reached the final after defeating defending champions South Africa 2-1 in a thrilling semi-final encounter.
Goals from Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo helped secure the Falcons’ place in tonight’s showdown.
Morocco, meanwhile, earned their spot in the final after edging out Ghana in a dramatic penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 draw in regular time.
As the host nation, they are expected to receive massive home support in what is set to be a high-stakes contest.
On the bench for Nigeria are several top talents including Christy Ucheibe, Jennifer Echegini, Sikiratu Isah, Toni Payne, Asisat Oshoala, Ifeoma Onumonu, and backup goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi.
There is growing speculation that FC Barcelona star Asisat Oshoala, who has been used sparingly in this tournament due to fitness concerns, could make a vital appearance off the bench if needed.
Coach Madugu has maintained a careful balance between youth and experience throughout the tournament. His tactical approach has seen the Falcons unbeaten, with a combination of defensive discipline and sharp counter-attacks.
Speaking ahead of the final, Madugu emphasized team unity over individual brilliance.
“We are here to win as a team. Every player, whether starting or on the bench, has a role to play,” he said.
Tonight’s final marks Nigeria’s 12th appearance in a WAFCON final. The Super Falcons are record holders in the competition with 11 titles already and are aiming to add a 12th to their legacy.
With both national pride and continental glory at stake, football fans across Africa will be watching closely to see if Nigeria can maintain its dominance or if Morocco will make history on home soil.
The stage is set, and expectations are high as the Super Falcons take on the Lionesses of Atlas in what promises tobe an unforgettable WAFCON final.
