Interest in the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalization Programme (YEIDEP) continues to soar as over 4.6 million Nigerian youths have officially registered for the federal government-backed initiative.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that, as of May 5th, 2025, a total of 4,638,431 applications have been received.

This figure reflects a growing demand for the programme, which aims to empower young Nigerians by providing grants, vocational training, business support, and mentorship.

YEIDEP, introduced by the Nigerian government, is a response to the country’s increasing youth unemployment and social instability.

The scheme targets young people between the ages of 18 and 35, offering them a pathway out of unemployment and economic hardship.

Through this initiative, applicants can receive both financial assistance and the necessary tools to improve their skills or start their businesses.

According to officials from the Ministry of Youth Development, while the high number of applicants is encouraging, there is still room for more youths to benefit from the programme before the application portal closes on May 31, 2025.

A senior official stated, “We’re excited by the turnout, but the portal is still open. We want more young people, especially those in underserved areas, to take advantage of this opportunity before it closes.”

The initiative has attracted considerable attention, particularly in underserved communities.

With word quickly spreading about the potential benefits, many Nigerian youths see YEIDEP as a valuable opportunity to build a brighter future.

YEIDEP aims to support young Nigerians in various ways.

The programme provides vocational training, business support, and grants ranging from ₦50,000 to ₦500,000 to help applicants launch or grow their businesses.

Additionally, the initiative offers mentorship to guide beneficiaries through the challenges of entrepreneurship and career development.

What sets YEIDEP apart from other programmes is that there are no application fees, and the programme is accessible to youths in both urban and rural areas.

This inclusivity is a key part of the government’s strategy to ensure that all young Nigerians, regardless of their location, have the chance to apply.

For those still unsure about applying, the Ministry of Youth Development outlines several benefits of the programme.

These include free application, tailored business and skill training, and a straightforward online application process.

The Ministry has also released an activity schedule, outlining the steps that will follow after the application deadline:

Application Deadline: May 31, 2025

Collation of Beneficiaries’ Accounts: June 1 – June 8, 2025

Engagement with Selected Beneficiaries: June 11 – June 30, 2025

Disbursement of Grants (Batch A): July 1 – July 31, 2025

Once applications close, the government will verify the beneficiaries’ account details, engage with successful applicants, and begin disbursing grants in July 2025.

YEIDEP is quickly shaping up to be one of the most impactful youth initiatives in Nigeria, similar to the success of the NPower programme.

With millions already on board, it is clear that Nigerian youths are eager for opportunities to advance their lives.

If you are between 18 and 35 and have not yet applied, the clock is ticking.

Visit the official YEIDEP portal or your nearest youth development office to begin your application process today.
