Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has sparked widespread debate after speaking out against what he described as the growing trend of entering relationships for financial gain.
In a recent interview, the actor criticised individuals who pursue romantic relationships with hidden intentions, arguing that such behaviour undermines the true essence of love and marriage.
“Plenty of girls are going into relationships because of what they want to collect from the man,” he said. “They should just go and be doing Bambiala and begging on the street instead. Love and marriage are not a scam, but there are people who are hungry and using relationships as meal tickets.”
Emeka Ike emphasised that problems often arise when one partner secretly expects financial benefits without being open about their intentions from the beginning.
“When you’re liking someone for an end that he’s not aware of, that’s what makes it a scam,” he added.
The actor maintained that genuine love should be the foundation of any successful relationship, warning against disguising financial interests as affection.
He also urged Nigerians to embrace honesty in their relationships rather than pretending to be in love for personal gain.
In addition, Ike advised women not to compare their marriages with relationships portrayed on social media, noting that every union is unique and requires patience, communication, and understanding to thrive.
His remarks have since generated mixed reactions online. While some agreed that hidden expectations can damage relationships, others argued that financial stability naturally plays a role in choosing a partner.
The conversation continues to highlight broader discussions around love, honesty, and evolving expectations in modern relationships.
