Nigerian singer Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has opened up about a past relationship and revealed why he decided to step away from dating for now, citing emotional strain and personal well-being.

Speaking during a recent interview with Korty EO, the award-winning artist said the relationship initially started on a positive note and created several happy memories, which he still appreciates.

However, Rema explained that things later changed, as the relationship became increasingly emotionally draining and difficult to manage.

According to him, the pressure eventually became overwhelming, making it necessary for him to walk away for the sake of his mental health and peace of mind.

“My romantic relationship was beautiful but a little quite manipulative,” he said.

The singer noted that life in the spotlight already comes with intense pressure from his career, fans, and the music industry. Because of this, he expected his personal space—especially home to be a place of relief and comfort.

However, he revealed that instead of finding peace after work, he often experienced additional emotional stress within the relationship.

“Knowing the world puts so much pressure on me, but coming back home is where you want to feel relieved… but when you come back home, and you are getting more pressure, it’s a different story,” he said.

Rema added that the situation eventually reached a breaking point, leading him to take a step back from relationships altogether.

He concluded by saying, “For now, I’m done.”
