Fierce gun battle, preceded by explosions, has been reported between the Nigerian troops and members of Boko Haram terrorist group in Borno State capital, Maiduguri.
As at the time of publishing this report, the duel is still ongoing.
The insurgents attacked Dailori and Walonri villages, on outskirts of Maiduguri.
Residents, including students of University of Maiduguri have taken cover in the nearby bushes while the exchange lasts.
The unfortunate incident is happening just as President Buhari has assured the world in faraway Ethiopia that all Boko Haram strongholds have been overran leaving them hapless and helpless.
Earlier in January, the Minister of Information has confidently declared that the federal troops have defeated the insurgents “technically”.
