Kano, Nigeria – A solemn Ga’ib (funeral prayer in absentia) was held on Saturday in Kano for the late Nigerian business icon, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, drawing dignitaries, Islamic clerics, politicians, and prominent figures from across the country.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the prayer session took place at the Umar bn Khattab Mosque along Zaria Road in the Gyadi-Gyadi area of Kano.
It was led by the Chairman of the Kano Council of Ulama, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, with the Commandant General of the Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa, also in attendance.
Among the dignitaries present were the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, members of the Kano State Executive Council, and several members of the Nigerian business community.
The gathering reflected the profound respect and admiration held for Dantata, one of the country’s most revered industrialists and philanthropists.
Alhaji Aminu Dantata passed away earlier in the week in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
In accordance with a personal will he had written prior to his death, his body will be laid to rest in Madina, Saudi Arabia.
The funeral prayer in Kano was an opportunity for those unable to attend the burial abroad to pay their final respects.
Tributes have poured in from national leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who described Dantata as “a patriot,” and Vice President Kashim Shettima, who called him “an irreplaceable institution.”
Dantata was known not only for his towering presence in Nigeria’s economic landscape but also for his lifelong commitment to philanthropy and Islamic scholarship.
His death marks the end of an era for Northern Nigeria’s business elite.
May his soul rest in peace.
