Emeka Ihedioha, the former Governor of Imo State, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and declared it as the ideal platform for his political movement and followers.
According to him, “My party, your party, our party is now ADC. That is the way to go.
That is the party for all of us”. This move comes after his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in April 2024, where he had been a prominent figure
Ihedioha has described ADC as the perfect platform for his political ideology and the Rebuild Imo Movement (RIM), which he leads.
The ADC has recently unveiled itself as a national opposition coalition platform, positioning itself as a formidable challenger to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ihedioha has directed the leaders of his Rebuild Imo Movement (RIM) to mobilize at the grassroots level, indicating his commitment to building support for the ADC in Imo State.
Ihedioha’s defection is seen as a significant boost to the ADC, which is trying to establish itself as a major player in Nigerian politics.
Analysts believe that Ihedioha’s move could make the ADC a third-force contender in the next election cycle, potentially challenging the dominance of the APC and PDP.
Ihedioha’s decision to join the ADC may alter the political landscape in Imo State, where he has a significant following .
Speaking at his Civic Centre residence, Owerri on Saturday while addressing leaders of his Rebuild Imo Movement (RIM), Ihedioha declared, “My party, your party, our party is now ADC. That is the way to go. That is the party for all of us.”
He urged his supporters to embrace ADC as their new political home.
He highlighted the strong presence of RIM across the state, noting that their structure remains viable and effective.
“We already have representation in all the booths in the 305 wards in the state, and our structure across the 27 LGAs and three geopolitical zones are strong, viable and functional. Just go home and invigorate our RIM structure which is highly effective and superb,” he added.
Expressing gratitude to his loyalists, Ihedioha acknowledged their patience and support since leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in April last year. “I must thank all of you here and those who are not here, for your steadfastness, support and patience,” he said.
He also praised the RIM leadership at various levels, including women and youth leaders, for their dedication.
“Equally, I use the state women leader, Lady Ijeoma Domike, in appreciating all our women. I also acknowledge our youths for their diligence and dedication. Together, we shall triumph,” Ihedioha enthused.
