Taiwo critiques Obasa’s removal from Speakership

Muraina Taiwo, a member of the Governance Advisory Council for the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, has voiced strong criticism about how Mudashiru Obasa was removed as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The lawmakers voted him out on January 13, 2025, citing claims of misconduct, abuse of power, and financial mismanagement.

Upon returning to Lagos on Saturday, he firmly denied the allegations. He argued that proper procedures were not followed during his removal.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Taiwo characterized Obasa’s ousting as illegal and disrespectful to the party’s leadership. Furthermore, he emphasized that this incident has caused a split within the GAC, urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene.

“The lawmakers’ actions are illegal and demonstrate a complete lack of respect for leadership,” Taiwo stated. He expressed concern over the division within the GAC and stressed the need for unity.

“While the GAC is divided on this matter, we will defer to our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for resolution.”

Interestingly, Taiwo’s comments echo those of fellow GAC member, Senator Anthony Adefuye.

He also labeled Obasa’s removal as unlawful, agreeing that the entire process contained significant flaws and lacked transparency.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State House of Assembly awaits Obasa’s return to decide their next steps regarding the situation.
