ADO-EKITI, NIGERIA — The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has assured residents of Ekiti State of a credible, transparent, and well-secured governorship election scheduled for June 20.
Amupitan gave the assurance while speaking on preparations for the poll, noting that the commission has strengthened logistical arrangements and security coordination to ensure that voters can participate freely without intimidation or disruption.
He said INEC is committed to conducting an election that meets national and international standards, stressing that technological safeguards have been deployed to improve accreditation, voting, and result transmission processes.
The INEC chairman emphasized that lessons learned from previous elections have informed new operational strategies aimed at reducing irregularities and enhancing public confidence in the electoral process.
He further stated that collaboration with security agencies has been intensified to guarantee the safety of electoral officers, materials, and voters across polling units in the state.
According to him, adequate security deployment will be in place before, during, and after the election, with special attention to flashpoint areas identified through risk assessment reports.
Amupitan also urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully, warning that electoral misconduct would not be tolerated and would be met with strict enforcement of the law.
He appealed to residents of Ekiti State to come out en masse to exercise their civic rights, assuring them that INEC is fully prepared to deliver a credible and efficient electoral exercise.
Stakeholders in the electoral process have continued to call for improved transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s elections, with INEC reaffirming its commitment to continuous reforms aimed at strengthening democracy.
The commission reiterated that the success of the Ekiti governorship poll would further demonstrate Nigeria’s progress in consolidating democratic governance and electoral integrity.
