Senate on Tuesday postponed early scheduled screening of Ministerial nominees till Thursday even as there was confusion in the Senate over the screening of a former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as minister.

Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki is scheduled to appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on Wednesday in continuation of his trial over 13- count charge on alleged falsification of assets declaration.

However, the statement issued by the Acting Clerk of the Senate, Nelson Ayewoh on postponement of senate sitting from today to tomorrow did not state any reason for it.

Regardless, feelers from the leadership of the senate lend credence to the fact that Saraki as a result of his expected appearance before the Tribunal today along with many of the senators may have caused the rescheduling of plenary session.

The Senate Acting Clerk in the statement said: “This is to inform all distinguished senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the resumption of the senate in plenary has been rescheduled from Wednesday 21st October 2015, to Thursday 22nd October, 2015”.

Amaechi was included in the first batch of ministerial nominees submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari for screening and confirmation last month.

The first Order Paper released by the upper chamber included eight ministerial nominees slated for screening.

The names on the list included Amaechi, but another Order Paper issues minutes later had only three nominees, with Amaechi’s name conspicuously missing.

The names in the first order of the Paper are – Barr. Adebayo Shittu (Oyo), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri (Bayelsa), Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Khadija Abba Ibrahim (Yobe), Hon. Bawa Bwari (Niger),  Ocholi Enojo James (Kogi), Mansur Muhammed (Zamfara) and Zainab Ahmed (Kaduna).
