ABUJA, NIGERIA — Hon. Nafiu Bala, the embattled claimant to the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has reportedly expressed deep regret over his role in the party’s ongoing internal crisis, citing threats to his life and growing personal safety concerns.
The development emerged through comments made by his close associate, Nafiu Umaru, who disclosed that Bala has become increasingly distressed since the crisis escalated, affecting both him and his family.
According to Umaru, Bala admitted that his involvement in the dispute has placed him under pressure, with alleged threats making it difficult for him to carry out normal activities, including attending congregational prayers.
He reportedly stated that the situation has deteriorated to the point where his personal security has become a major concern, forcing him to limit public appearances.
Umaru further revealed that Bala blamed key political figures, including Hon. Leke Abejide and Babachir Lawal, for influencing his actions during the crisis and contributing to the escalation of tensions within the party.
Bala allegedly claimed that assurances given to him at the height of the dispute were not fulfilled, leaving him feeling abandoned and exposed to the consequences of the conflict.
He also reportedly expressed disappointment that expected political compensation did not materialise, noting that aside from limited financial support for legal expenses, he received no significant benefit.
The crisis within the ADC has been marked by leadership disputes involving prominent figures, including David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, further deepening divisions within the party.
Umaru stated that Bala now regrets his involvement in activities that contributed to the leadership struggle and is seeking a way out of the situation.
He disclosed that Bala is considering withdrawing from the ongoing legal battle as part of efforts to “free himself” from the controversy and pave the way for reconciliation.
The associate added that he has advised Bala to formally withdraw the case and issue a public apology, a suggestion Bala reportedly accepted as part of steps toward resolving the crisis.
The situation reflects the broader instability within the ADC, where internal disagreements have escalated into legal and political confrontations, attracting national attention.
Political analysts warn that such internal conflicts can weaken party structures, reduce public confidence, and affect future electoral prospects if not quickly resolved.
Bala is said to be preparing to address the public in the coming days, with the aim of clarifying his position, distancing himself from the dispute, and restoring his reputation.
As developments continue, attention will focus on whether his expected public statement and potential legal withdrawal will ease tensions and bring a measure of stability to the party.
