Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has shared a detailed update on the finances of his initiative, the Martins Vincent Otse Initiative (MVOI).
Launched in October 2024, the NGO operates with a public transparency model, allowing donors and supporters to track contributions and expenditures in real time through its official platform.
In a recent update, VeryDarkMan disclosed that the initiative has raised a total of ₦690.9 million since inception. According to him, about ₦683.3 million has already been invested in various projects, leaving a balance of approximately ₦7.6 million as of July 5.
Providing clarity in a video statement, he addressed critics questioning the low remaining balance, stating that it reflects active deployment of funds rather than mismanagement.
“Today I want to take out time to give you guys an update of the funds inside the NGO account and also use this opportunity to tell you people to donate more money because the funds have gone down,” he said.
The activist emphasised that the funds have been channelled into impactful initiatives, including the ongoing OdioKwu Community School project, which remains a key focus of the organisation.
The initiative has received significant support from high-profile donors, including music executive Don Jazzy, who reportedly contributed ₦100 million, and Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, who donated ₦140 million.
While many supporters have praised the transparency model and public updates, some critics continue to call for more detailed accountability measures, including itemised receipts, independent audits, and further verification beyond aggregate figures.
As conversations continue online, the development highlights ongoing debates around transparency, trust, and accountability in charitable organisations in Nigeria.
