BREAKING: Churches Endorse George Moghalu For November Anambra Governorship Election

(DDM) – The Labour Party Governorship Candidate in Anambra State, Dr. George Moghalu, has secured the open endorsement and prayers of church leaders and Christian groups across Anambra, as his campaign message of moral governance, public accountability, and community renewal continues to resonate among the faithful.

GNM Media Center told Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) that Dr. Moghalu made this passionate appeal during a powerful interactive session with the Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Awka, held at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Amaenyi, where the clergy, lay leaders, and youth representatives gathered to hear his vision for a new Anambra.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Moghalu emphasized that the Church remains one of the most powerful social institutions capable of guiding political leadership and ensuring a moral rebirth in society.

“The Church must not be silent when leadership fails,” he said. “It is time for men and women of faith to rise, to speak truth to power, and to partner in rebuilding a state that was once the pride of the East.”

The Labour Party candidate described Anambra’s current state as tragic, noting that insecurity, infrastructural decay, and unemployment have crippled development. “Anambra used to be a hub for education, innovation, and commerce,” he said.

“But today, fear dominates the streets, businesses are shutting down, and young people are migrating because they have lost hope in leadership. No investor will risk capital in a place where safety cannot be guaranteed.”

Dr. Moghalu criticized the state government’s alleged neglect of agriculture and rural development, stating that “not a single naira has been invested in revitalizing the agricultural sector, which could have employed thousands and ensured food security.”

He pledged to revive the sector, rebuild schools, and ensure that every community benefits from public infrastructure, not just the urban centres.

Drawing comparisons with Abia State, Moghalu praised Governor Alex Otti’s transformative leadership and financial discipline. “In less than two years, Otti has restored Abia’s dignity through transparent governance and bold reforms,” he said.

“That is what Anambra needs, a government that speaks less and works more. Sadly, our own governor prefers eloquence over evidence.”

Moghalu reaffirmed his deep faith and humility, insisting that his ambition is guided by divine conviction rather than personal ambition. “Power belongs to God,” he said. “I stand before the Church today seeking partnership, not politics as usual.

Pray for me, believe in me, and let us walk together to restore the glory of this land.”

The event was marked by hymns, intercessory prayers, and words of encouragement from senior clergy, who commended Moghalu’s humility, courage, and consistent respect for traditional and religious institutions.

They noted that his frequent visits to communities and churches reflect a leadership style rooted in accessibility and reverence for the people.

The Methodist Bishop of Awka Diocese, while blessing Moghalu, described him as “a man of faith and focus whose leadership will honour God and uplift Anambra.” He urged Christians across the state to evaluate candidates not by money or slogans, but by character, competence, and compassion.

Dr. Moghalu, who has also paid homage to several traditional rulers in recent weeks, reiterated that respecting cultural and religious institutions will remain a key pillar of his campaign.

“Every community I visit, I begin with homage to their traditional ruler and prayers from their spiritual leaders,” he explained. “It reminds me that leadership is service, not dominance.”

He assured Anambra citizens that under his administration, transparency and meritocracy would replace nepotism and mediocrity. “No government can succeed without integrity,” he said. “We must return power to the people, not to godfathers or corrupt elites.”

With the November 2025 governorship election drawing closer, Dr. Moghalu’s growing alliance with church institutions and civic groups is seen as a major boost to his campaign momentum.

Observers note that his message of moral renewal and economic recovery is fast gaining traction among voters disillusioned with the current administration.

The event ended with a symbolic prayer of unity, as congregants joined hands and declared that “Anambra shall rise again.”
